Tips for Dog Owners Trying to Sell their Home

Dogs are a man's best friend, right?  YES...most of the time this is true.  However, when you are trying to sell your home, having a dog can incur some additional work on your part because some buyers may be turned off by the idea of a dog/pet in their "future home."

As a dog owner, it may be hard to imagine why anyone's decision to buy a home would be affected by a dog/pet -after all, you are selling the house not your dog/pet.  Although this is true, keep in mind that potential buyers create first impressions based on their opinions of dogs/pets and these impressions may be hard overcome.  Here are some things to consider:
  • The potential buyer may be allergic to dogs/pets
  • The potential buyer might be afraid of dogs/pets.
  • The potential buyer may correlate a dog/pet with the image of a dirty, smelly home.
  • The potential buyer may correlate a dog/pet with a yard that is dug up and messy.
Don't be worried or discouraged, we are not telling you to get rid of your furry friends - but here is a list of things to do before each showing that will help you present an appealing home and sell your Lake of the Ozarks Home.
  • Dust all surfaces often.
  • Vacuum often and especially before every showing.
  • Shampoo and brush your dog weekly.
  • Take the dog out of the house during showings
  • Keep the yard clear of dog debris.
  • Hide the dog beds, dishes and toys.
  • If possible, open the windows before showing the home to help draw the fresh air in and the "doggy smell" out.
We hope these tips will help you and your pet as you in your process of selling your Lake of the Ozarks Home!!
