Tips for Selling Your Home in the Winter

When you need to sell your home in the winter, you may find that it can be a wonderful time to do so. There are a lot of buyers interested in homes at the Lake of the Ozarks before summer arrives, and they are typically pretty serious buyers. Here are a few tips to help make selling your home in the winter a breeze!

Display Year-Round Beauty of your Listing

While your landscaping may not have the same curb appeal as it does in the spring and summer, there are ways to still take advantage of this season. Display photos of your home from other seasons to help give your potential buyers an idea of what it will look like very soon.

Create a Cozy Atmosphere

While it may be cold and wintry outside, you can create a safe haven for your buyers. If you have a fireplace, you don't have to light it, but you can draw much attention to it, or place candles inside. Drape blankets over the cushions, set a few books on the coffee table and make it look like you're ready to bundle up and stay cozy all winter long in your home. You can bake cookies in the oven, or even make hot chocolate to make it smell fabulous in your home.

Use the Smaller Inventory to Your Advantage

Many times, in the winter, people don't want to sell their homes because they think it's better to sell in the summer. While it's true that a lot of home sell when the weather is beautiful, you can take advantage of the low inventory when selling your home. You'll sell much faster if there are only three homes on the market, versus 30!

Keep the Entryway Clean

Winter time can be notorious for creating a mess. From tracking in snow and puddles on your boots to finding dried tracks all over the house because of the salt that's been spread outside. The entryway is the first thing that your potential buyers will see, so it's important to make sure that it's clean and orderly.

Emphasize Spaces That Will Appeal in Winter

If you have a large home theater in your basement, dress it up and make it look superb! If you have a great play room, activity room, or even a rock wall in the kids room, make sure and feature these. Use the advantages that your home has to appeal to families in this winter season.
