How to Clean A Variety Of Flooring Types
While Spring Cleaning may be far behind you, August 3rd is Clean Your Floors Day. It's a great chance to get down and perform a deep clean on all of your flooring types, from carpet and wood to tile and vinyl. Whether you're selling a Lake of the Ozarks home and you just want to get it spic and span, or you've just bought your home and are getting it ready to move in, there are several different ways to clean different flooring types.
Cleaning Wood Floors
Over time, wood floors can get a build up of dirt, oil, and grime, and they aren't completely removed by a weekly dust mopping. When you want to really get a good, deep clean on your flooring, you can use a wood-cleaning product diluted according to the instructions. Soak a sponge in the mixture, and the wring it to almost dry. You don't want to soak your wood floors, as that will cause damage. Damp-mop your flooring, and be careful that you don't leave standing water anywhere. Rinse the floors with a clean mop from clean water if the cleaning product requires it, and wipe up excess liquid. If Missouri provides humid weather (like it usually does!) make sure you have a ceiling fan on or the air conditioner to help speed up the drying to prevent warping.Cleaning Tile Floors
Tile floors are one of the easiest flooring types to clean, and they are extremely durable - especially in areas where you have a lot of water like a kitchen or bathroom. You'll want to start by removing all surface dirt from the floor. You can start this by sweeping everything into a pile and then removing it, after that you can vacuum around the baseboards with a hose, and then set your vacuum to the lowest setting and vacuum the floors. This should give you a clean surface to operate on. Then you'll want to mix equal parts of water and vinegar in a bucket, and use HOT water, and then fill up a bucket of clean water to rinse. Soak your mop in the vinegar water, and then wring it out as much as possible, mop from side to side and then up and down to get between the grout. Depending on the size of the room, you may need another bucket of vinegar water. Rinse it off with the clean water, and then allow everything to dry.Cleaning Carpet
When you're cleaning your carpet, either by wet or dry methods, always make sure to protect your furniture, carpet padding and subfloor. Get all of the furniture out of the room and thoroughly vacuum the carpet. You can use a rental cleaner or have it professionally cleaned. If you choose a wet extraction method, make sure everything is dry within 24 hours to prevent mold. If you'll be using a dry extraction method, you'll spread a dry absorbent compound over the carpet being cleaned and vacuum it up.Cleaning Vinyl Flooring
When you want to clean your vinyl flooring, you really can't go wrong with some plain water and a sponge mop! You can vacuum or dry mop the floor to remove surface dirt, dust, and hair before moving on to wet cleaning. Make sure you get under the furniture, in the corners, and along the baseboards. Apple cider vinegar mixed with water can cut through the dirt and grim without leaving a build up of soap or wax.Cleaning Your Lake of the Ozarks Home
