3 Easy Things To Do Before The Movers Arrive

Buying a home at Lake of the Ozarks is a huge and exciting time in your life. It can also be a very stressful time when you consider the next steps once your closing process is complete - The Move. Moving can be overwhelming, but planning ahead can help. At Gattermeir Davidson we want to get you ready for the moving truck and get you on the fast track to enjoying living at the Lake of the Ozarks.

1. Purging and Packing

We accumulate a lot of stuff over the years and we don't really realize it until it comes time to move. Use this opportunity to go through your personal belongings and declutter. Not only will you clear up some space for your new home, but you'll make your move easier by lightening the load. Before you start packing, comb through each room and start making a "dispose or donate" pile. Now you're ready to start packing.

Make a list of overnight essentials such as a change of clothes, toiletries, and medications so you're prepared to set those things aside to avoid having to dig through boxes once you're moved. Determine ahead of time what you'll need to unpack first such as cooking utensils and bed linens. Plan to pack those items last and clearly mark those boxes so they're easy to locate. Let the movers know load those boxes last so they're the first to be unpacked. Pack room by room and indicate on the box what room the box goes to so the movers can place them accordingly as they're unloading. This will help to easily begin unpacking rooms one at a time and avoid the hassle of not being able to find boxes. Once your boxes are unloaded and in their respective locations, the task of unpacking is all that's left!

2. Make Sure You're There When The Movers Arrive

Be present for the move. You can give direction to the movers as to any specialty items they need to be careful with when moving, and in what order you'd like the home to be moved in so as to make for a smooth unpacking process. Minimize chaos by having a plan in place for your pets or children. Moving a home can quickly become very stressful and hazardous if there are bolting dogs or children under foot. Arrange for a sitter or a safe place for them to be on that day.

3. Transferring and Cancelling Services

Being proactive is good, but not when that means you have no electricity on moving day. Schedule the termination or transfer of services for after the move. No lights and no working plumbing will make the move unpleasant and hazardous. If the movers can't see where they're going damage could occur to your furniture, the property, and the movers. Avoid that liability.

Keep these tips in mind and you'll save yourself a lot of stress and headache before the moving truck arrives. Find yourself quickly enjoying your new home at Lake of the Ozarks. Remember: lists are your best friend and having a plan will make the move much smoother. Don't forget if you need to sell a home at the Lake of the Ozarks Gattermeir Davidson is here to help.
