Packing Hacks To Make Moving Easier

Moving from one home to the next is no small task. In fact, it can be one of the most stressful things you'll do in your lifetime. This isn't meant to scare you away from moving, though (unless you're leaving the Lake of the Ozarks!), but to actually empower you, and make it easier. There are many shortcuts and quick tips you can utilize to make the process simpler. We're we're constantly working with people who are moving, either relocating to the Lake of the Ozarks or moving away from and selling a Lake of the Ozarks home. Because of this, we thought you would like to learn a few ways to make it easier.

Pack an Overnight Bag with Essentials

Don't get so wrapped up in the packing hubbub that you forget to pack a bag with all of the necessities. You'll want to include a few changes of clothes, your toiletries, and anything else you'll need your first night in your new Lake of the Ozarks home. This way, if you don't feel like unpacking everything, you don't have to. You may also want to keep your laptop and charger in this bag as well just to make sure it doesn't get misplaced, broken, or stolen.

Pack the Items You Need First in a Clear Plastic Bin

Anything you'll need on your first night can be included in this box. Think of items like toilet paper, sheets, a few cooking utensils (like a cookie sheet for a frozen pizza), power strips, box cutter, etc. The clear box will also make it easier to find among the cardboard boxes.

Label Your Boxes

When packing, try to pack one room at a time, and label the boxes for each room. You can even incorporate a color system and designate a specific color to each room. Then put a piece of tape on the box in that color. If you want to be really organized, you can number each box, and then have a list of the numbers and what's in the box.

Pre-Clean Your Bathroom & Kitchen

If you get the opportunity, it doesn't hurt to show up before the movers and deep clean the bathroom and the kitchen. You can even put up a new shower curtain, stock the toilet paper, and put your shower supplies in the bathroom. This will make it feel like home quickly.

Care for Your Cosmetics

Did you know that if you put a cotton ball or cotton pad in your pressed powder cosmetics that it will decrease their chance of breaking? You can also remove the tops of your shampoos and soaps put a piece of plastic wrap over the top, and then screw the lid back on. This will help prevent leaks during the trip.

Press n' Seal Can Be Your Friend

Did you know, if you don't want to unpack a drawer, but want everything to stay inside, you can use press n' seal plastic wrap to keep the contents inside? You can also use Press n' seal for your jewelry by placing them separately in between two layers and then sealing them shut. This will keep the chains of your necklaces from tangling.

Take a Photo of Your Electronics

Have you ever unhooked your computers and televisions only to find you have NO clue how to get them back the way they started? Take a quick photo before you start unplugging everything and it will make hooking it all back up so much easier!

Utilize Your Suitcases, Baskets, Bins, and Hampers

If you have suitcases, baskets, bins, and hampers - don't move them empty! They are great for moving clothes, blankets, and more. You can even use wheeled suitcases to move heavy items, like books!

Pack Clothing Efficiently

Don't waste time taking all of your clothing off of their hangers only to have to put them back on again! Group them together in the closet and slide a trash bag up over them. This will keep them safe and clean, but still easy to organize. You can also take advantage of vacuum seal bags for winter clothes and big bulky coats.
